Charity Beer for Remembrance Day November 4, 2013

Beer number 9 of 43 of the ‘Count the Beers…’ limited edition range will be Ultimate Sacrifice, Plum Porter, 5.7 ABV, which supports the Royal British Legion Poppy appeal, with 10% of sales from the casks donated to support the cause.

The name ‘Ultimate Sacrifice’ comes from a WW1 memorial found in Coxhoe, the village our brewery is based in, commemorating the local men lost in the conflict. Money raised will goes towards helping war veterans stay independent and helping those injured in recent conflicts recover, as well as supporting military families and teaching children about remembrance.

The beer itself used around 1000 plums in the brew, added at conditioning, to give a sweet yet tart tang. We did hope to take some inspirations from the flower synonymous with the cause & use poppy seeds within the brew, however decided against this due to their opiate properties!

The beer will go out to pubs this week, in time for Remembrance Sunday.
